Veltex Recovery Group continues to elevate its trauma-informed care by introducing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as part of its clinical programming. Recognized globally as a first-line treatment for trauma, EMDR helps clients safely reprocess distressing memories without re-traumatization—making it especially effective for those in addiction recovery.
What Is EMDR?
EMDR is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro. It uses guided eye movements and bilateral stimulation to help the brain integrate unresolved trauma, reduce emotional reactivity, and promote healing.
It has been proven effective in treating:
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Substance Use Disorder (SUD)
- Anxiety and panic disorders
- Co-occurring mental health challenges
EMDR is endorsed by leading organizations including:
- The American Psychological Association (APA)
- The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
- The World Health Organization (WHO)
Why EMDR Matters at Veltex
Many Veltex clients arrive with complex trauma histories that fuel their substance use. By addressing these core issues directly, EMDR helps reduce relapse risk and fosters sustainable, long-term recovery.
Here’s why Veltex is integrating EMDR into its clinical model:
✅ Addresses Root Trauma: Targets unresolved experiences that often drive addiction
✅ Supports ASAM-Aligned Treatment: Seamlessly integrates into Levels of Care 3.1 and 3.5 under ASAM’s trauma-informed guidelines
✅ Improves Outcomes: Research shows EMDR can reduce trauma symptoms faster than traditional talk therapy
✅ Expands Clinical Capabilities: Enhances our team’s expertise with specialized training for Licensed Professional Counselors
✅ Opens Reimbursement Opportunities: Aligns with trauma diagnoses that may increase Medicaid and MCO reimbursement
Implementation Plan
Veltex will begin by investing in basic EMDR training (Parts I & II) for its provisional Licensed Professional Counselor. Once complete, EMDR therapy will be integrated into individual counseling sessions for qualifying clients.
Services will be available at Levels of Care 3.1 and 3.5, adding to an already robust therapeutic model that includes:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Relapse prevention
- Life skills training
- Trauma recovery groups
